Objective: The present study aims to design and empirically validate an integrated model of the relationships among GLOBE cultural dimensions, academic culture, and quantum academic leadership in Islamic Azad University branches across Tehran Province, by identifying the components of each construct and elucidating the structural relationships among them.
Method: The research was applied in nature and employed a mixed-methods (exploratory sequential) design within a pragmatism paradigm. In the qualitative phase, utilizing the meta-synthesis approach and Sandelowski and Barroso’s framework (thematic analysis strategy), 40 valid documents were selected from 162 sources through a systematic screening process based on the PRISMA framework. An initial model was extracted and validated by 10 experts using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI). In the quantitative phase, a researcher-made questionnaire was distributed among 354 managers and faculty members selected via stratified random sampling. Reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha (Academic Culture: 0.914, Quantum Leadership: 0.951, GLOBE Culture: 0.932); composite reliability (CR) ranged from 0.926 to 0.957, and convergent validity (AVE) ranged from 0.525 to 0.613. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in Smart PLS 3 software.
Results: Qualitative findings indicated that the meta-synthesis model, derived from integrating the GLOBE national and social culture, quantum academic leadership, and Bergquist and Pawlak’s academic culture, comprises three categories of components: 1) GLOBE cultural dimensions (Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Institutional Collectivism, In-Group Collectivism, Gender Egalitarianism, Assertiveness, Future Orientation, Performance Orientation, and Humane Orientation); 2) Quantum leadership components (Quantum Visioning, Quantum Knowing, Quantum Thinking, Quantum Acting, Quantum Feeling, Quantum Trusting, and Quantum Living); and 3) Academic culture components (Collegial, Consensual, and Democratic Culture; Managerial Culture; Developmental Culture; Advocacy Culture; Virtual Culture; and Tangible Culture). Quantitative findings revealed a significant positive relationship between GLOBE cultural dimensions and academic culture (β = 0.484, t = 9.544). A significant positive relationship was also observed between GLOBE cultural dimensions and quantum academic leadership (β = 0.751, t = 27.959). Furthermore, a significant positive relationship was confirmed between quantum academic leadership and academic culture (β = 0.441, t = 8.810).
Conclusion: GLOBE cultural dimensions play a decisive role in explaining quantum leadership and academic culture. Quantum leadership, as an influential construct, facilitates the strengthening of academic culture. Therefore, attention to cultural contexts and modern leadership models is essential for enhancing managerial effectiveness and promoting transformation in higher education.
