Objective: This study aimed to identify the capacities and potential capabilities of the university departments of the Faculty of Humanities in the field of social responsibility.
Method: Employing a case study design, the research population consisted of all heads of university departments at Hamedan Bu-Ali Sina University. Using criterion-based sampling and the principle of data saturation, nine participants were selected. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were analyzed using thematic analysis. Data credibility was ensured through member checking and external auditing, while the validity of the findings was confirmed using the CVR method.
Results: The results indicated that the capacities and potential of the educational departments regarding social responsibility include: responding to the needs of the local community; constructive collaboration with civil institutions and NGOs in addressing social needs; efforts to realize a green university; facilitating education for students with special needs; strengthening Islamic-Iranian identity; embracing and respecting multiculturalism; promoting theme-based education; preparing learners to adapt to continuous changes in all dimensions of life; advancing borderless and citizenship education; linking academic research with local community needs; expanding and disseminating knowledge; producing and developing indigenous theories; facilitating voluntary and charitable activities; promoting ethical management; nurturing thoughtful, critical, and efficient students; enhancing faculty knowledge in the field of university social responsibility; focusing on methods and tools for innovative teaching and learning; and creating motivation for active participation in the field of university social responsibility
Conclusion: Ultimately, it can be stated that addressing the emerging issues and challenges of society requires identifying the capacities and capabilities of academic departments in the realm of social responsibility. Such an endeavor holds the promise of a brighter future for the sustainable development of society.
