Abstract: (18 Views)
Objective: This study aims to identify and present spatial planning strategies for managing third-generation universities which play a critical role in regional dynamics and development.
Research Method: This applied study combines a scientometric and content-analysis approach, by using the PRISMA technique to guide document identification and a co-word (co-occurrence) analysis to map the research field. The population comprised documents indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases between 1980 and 2020 under the relevant keywords; 461 documents (386 from Scopus and 75 from Web of Science) were retained for analysis. Bibliometric data were processed using BibExcel, and the resulting science maps were visualized in VOSviewer.
Findings: The findings show that, despite a steadily growing volume of publications in this field, the number of the researches addressing spatial planning strategies for managing third-generation universities remains limited. The content analysis identified five main thematic axes: the core components of higher education spatial planning (geography, culture, human resources, and history), the key actors involved, the underlying rationale and necessity, methods of strengthening and facilitation, and the resulting outcomes and consequences.
Conclusion: Drawing on the resulting science maps, this study presents a comprehensive set of spatial-planning and management strategies for third-generation universities that can support more effective regional development.
