Objective: Scientific articles are considered one of the fundamental indicators of scientific and academic development. However, in many universities, especially those located in less developed regions, the process of scientific production faces numerous obstacles. The present study aimed to Analysis of organizational, infrastructural, and individual barriers to conducting research and writing scientific articles from the perspective of faculty members in Zabol University.
Method: In terms of purpose, this study was applied, and in terms of method, it was descriptive–survey. The statistical population included all faculty members of the University of Zabol, from whom 150 individuals were selected as the sample using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a researcher‑developed questionnaire consisting of 52 items based on a five‑point Likert scale. The construct validity of the instrument was confirmed using exploratory factor analysis, and its reliability was verified through Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. For data analysis, in addition to descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the dimensions of the barriers, and the Friedman test was employed to prioritize them.
Findings: The findings showed that the barriers to scientific articles can be classified into three main dimensions: organizational and managerial, infrastructural, and individual. The results of the Friedman test indicated that organizational and managerial barriers ranked first in priority, infrastructural–structural barriers ranked second, and individual barriers ranked third in importance. Weak research policymaking and support systems, administrative bureaucracy, limitations in research facilities and infrastructure, and lack of financial resources were among the most important barriers identified.
Conclusion: Overall, the findings of the study indicate that the decline in scientific articles at the University of Zabol has a multidimensional nature. However, the dominance of structural–infrastructural and institutional factors over individual factors highlights the necessity of reforming organizational–managerial structures and strengthening research infrastructures. The innovation of the present study lies in presenting an empirical model based on exploratory factor analysis and prioritizing the barriers to writing scientific articles in a university located in a less developed region.
